Guests find themselves staying in a beautiful house located in a remote area of the Hollywood Hills. You must survive the house until sunrise, not only avoiding the murderous hostess but also the specters that have been awakened within the house. William Castle’s 1959 classic is updated in the new terrifyingly atmospheric attraction, House on Haunted Hill.

This treatment was an assignment for Creative Writing Level 1, taught by haunt attraction writer and creative director Ted Dougherty. The prompt for the assignment was to take an existing Intellectual Property and create a fresh reimagining, incorporating aspects of the lore into the attraction while doing something new with the IP. We had to choose to adapt one of four films in the public domain, and I chose to adapt William Castle’s 1959 film House on Haunted Hill.
